the perfect cup of hummble
we often get told when friends come over there's nothing that compares to our cup of hummble, how do you make it?!
first, choose your milk. we are fortunate enough to have a local dairy hand deliver fresh raw cow milk in a glass bottle. fresh is best then biodynamic/organic unhomogenised is next in line. we also love madame tiger's barista blend for it's smooth creamy texture, amazing taste and no seed oils or any allergens. happy soy often gets a cup or two being made a week, another creamy milk without any seed oils as well as pureharvest cocoquench for the clean label (we often do 50:50 soy and cocoquench). always check the back of you UHT plant milk containers for the ingredients. avoid anything with syrup, artificial flavours or preservatives like potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, anything with canola oil, vegetable oil, or hydrogenated oils and synthetic vitamins or mineral blends that can be poorly absorbed. you can also make your own nut milk - head back to our recipes and there is a cashew nut milk recipe that we perfected in our plant-based cafe years ago.
next, choose the method that works with what you have. our serving suggestion is 200ml milk with 1 tablespoon of hummble. if you enjoy a bigger cup, use a little more of your hummble blend.
1. thermomix. 200ml milk + 1 tbl hummble cacao. heat 70C for 2.5 mins on speed 3. then speed 6 for 10s, pour and serve. this leaves it at the perfect temp and makes sure everything is blended nicely.
2. whisk. heat 200ml milk + 1 tbl hummble cacao on stove and use a electric whisk or whish to blend together. if there are lumps at the bottom, pour most of the milk into your mug and then with the little milk left make it into a paste then add back into your mug.
3. milk frother. heat 200ml milk + 1 tbl hummble cacao in a milk frother. use head and no froth. i have found when using the froth option it turns it all to froth.
4. stove. heat 200ml over the stove. add 1 tbl of hummble cacao to your mug and pour in a teaspoon milk to make a paste. once smooth add the rest of the warm milk.
5. iced. place 1 tbl hummble into small cup/glass, mix with 1 tablespoon of hot water to make a past. add iced and 200ml cold milk to a jar/glass and then pour in the smooth hummble paste over the top. feel free to add a scoop of coyo vanilla bean icecream for the ultimate refresher.
